Brooklyn Mae Batty

Brooklyn Mae Batty made her arrival on April 22, 2010. She weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces and was 18 3/4 inches long. She is such a cute baby! The labor and delivery went amazingly well, and we are so happy to have her in our little family!
Thursday the 22nd I had my weekly doctors appointment. I was 38 weeks along and feeling great. I went to work that morning and my appointment was at 1:00. As I left for lunch I told my boss I would see him after my appointment. He joked with me and said the Dr. would probably keep me there and I would be having a baby that night. I just laughed at him and said, "see you this afternoon." Well needless to say, I never made it back to work.

I had been having a little bit of high blood pressure the last couple of weeks at my appointments, so we had been watching it pretty close. That day it was really high again, so Dr. Griffith said we were going down to OB to start me right now. I was shocked. I definitely wasn't planning on having a baby that day! I still thought I had 2 more weeks! My bag wasn't packed and I felt so unprepared! All I wanted to do was go back to work! I believe the conversation went like this:

Dr. G: Well you have high blood pressure again, and you're only 2 weeks from your due date. Do you see where I'm going with this?
Me: Yeah, you'll probably start me pretty soon (In a completely calm voice)
Dr. G: Not soon, today
Me: Today?!?!?!? (In a completely panicked voice)
Dr. G: Uh, yeah. You're going down to OB right now and as soon as they get you settled I'll be down to break your water. There's absolutely no reason for her to stay in there any longer with your blood pressure as high as it is.
Then he opened the door and told his staff to call OB and tell them to get a delivery room ready because I was heading down. He checked me and I was already dialated to a 4! He said, "Yep, you're definitely already in labor, head down there and I'll see you soon."

He left the room, closing the door behind him and I immediately started bawling! I told Ben, "I can't have her today, I'm not ready." He did his best to comfort me and we headed down to OB.
Here's how the rest of the day went in a nutshell:

2:00 p.m. I got changed and settled into the delivery room.
2:30 p.m. Nurse checked me and I was already dilated to a 5!
3:00 p.m. Got my epidural
3:30 p.m. Dr. Griffith came in and broke my water
4:45 p.m. I was still at a 5, so they started me on Pitocin
6:00 p.m. Dilated to an 8
6:30 p.m. Dilated to a 10
6:45 p.m. Started pushing
7:39 p.m. Brooklyn was here!!!

It was a super fast, pain free labor and delivery. It all happened so fast that it's just kind of a blur. In fact, I had to have Ben help me remember the times of everything because he kept track during the whole process and I was a little out of it. My hospital stay was great, we had a lot of visitors, I'm so amazed by all the love we've seen! The OB nurses were all wonderful! I absolutely loved them. They made the whole experience really good for me! We took her home on Saturday the 24th, and have been home enjoying her since.

We are so glad that Brooklyn's finally here and we love her so much! She has already brought so much joy to our lives and we can't imagine life without her! We've waited a long, long time for her and we thank Heavenly Father each day for sending this sweet little spirit down to us!!
